Baby Costs

Are Diaper Subscriptions Cheaper? Cost Per Diaper

Calculate diaper subscription unit costs from published box counts and prices, account for 28-day deliveries, and avoid paying for stock your baby outgrows.

A diaper subscription is cheaper only if its delivered cost per usable diaper beats the alternative you would buy. A percentage off a premium product can still leave a higher unit price than another brand. A box arriving automatically also creates spending when it arrives too early, contains the wrong size or includes wipes the household has not used up.

Manufacturer prices and package counts make the comparison concrete. The examples here use Coterie’s product and subscription pages and Honest’s program terms checked in October 2026. They do not rank absorbency or promise that one brand works for every baby. Start with a diaper that fits, then compare price, quantity and delivery timing without turning a discounted box into unnecessary stock.

Package count changes the cost of the same-priced box

Coterie’s product page advertises The Diaper starting at $95 per delivery. Its published size chart lists 198 diapers for size 1, 168 for size 3, 108 for size 6 and 96 for size 7. Those differences are large enough that the monthly headline price alone cannot describe unit cost.

Example: diaper cost at a $95 box price
  • Size one$0.48
  • Size three$0.57
  • Size six$0.88
  • Size seven$0.99

The calculation is the delivered order total divided by the diapers received and expected to be used. For an illustrative store pack costing $32 for 80 diapers, the merchandise unit price is $0.40. That is a comparison input, not a quote for a named store. Use the shelf label or checkout for the size on the shopping list, rather than a different size’s larger package count.

Add wipes or other products only when comparing equivalent purchases. A combined bundle with extra wipes is not automatically cheaper than a diaper-only order. Price the wipes separately at the quantity the household will use. The monthly diapers and formula budget places those recurring purchases alongside feeding expenses.

A 28-day subscription is different from a monthly calendar bill

Coterie’s FAQ says Auto-Renew frequency defaults to 28 days. A household buying 13 example boxes at $95 spends $1,235 on merchandise, compared with $1,140 for 12 boxes.

The $95 difference is another box, not a price increase. Thirteen 28-day intervals span 364 days; the exact number of charges inside a calendar year depends on the first charge date and any skipped or delayed deliveries.

Look at the schedule shown in the account and put the charge dates on the budget calendar. A delivery described as a monthly supply does not necessarily arrive on the same day of each calendar month. The annual cost estimate should use the renewal interval, not merely multiply the headline price by 12.

Stock can still run short at that interval. If an illustrative baby uses 6 diapers a day, a 168-diaper box lasts 28 days. If observed use rises to 8 per day, the same box lasts 21 days. Those are inventory calculations, not a recommendation to restrict diaper changes. Set deliveries around the baby’s observed use and care requirements rather than delaying changes to make a box last.

The recurring discount belongs in the checkout calculation once

Coterie’s FAQ publishes a 10% Auto-Renew discount and permits skipping, delaying or canceling. Do not subtract that percentage again from a price that already includes it. Compare the recurring checkout total with the one-time checkout total for the same product, size and quantity.

An introductory code and a recurring discount can follow different rules. Save the initial receipt and note what the next shipment will cost after a promotion ends. Check whether the offer combines with other discounts, and compare shipping conditions before deciding the first discounted shipment proves a long-term saving.

The baby registry discount guide explains another promotion that can affect the purchase price. A registry offer is not automatically available on a subscription or on every diaper brand. Confirm eligibility rather than subtracting several advertised percentages from the same starting price.

The box's total cost, size and renewal date determine whether delivery saves money. A shipment arriving before it can be used creates stock rather than a saving.

Size changes can turn a discount into unused inventory

Buying several boxes of a size can lock in a price while increasing the amount left over after a growth-related change. Read the maker’s size chart and observe fit, rather than forecasting months of stock from the baby’s present weight alone. Do not assume every unopened pack can be returned or exchanged.

For an illustrative subscription box costing $95, if 20 of 198 diapers remain unusable after a size change, only 178 were used. Dividing $95 by those 178 diapers gives about $0.53 per used diaper instead of the $0.48 package-unit calculation. The example shows inventory loss; it does not predict a particular baby’s growth or fit.

Keep a small record of unopened packs, the size in use and the next processing date. Ask the subscription service how to change size or add a trial pack before the next order. Leave room for a household’s preferences to change without prepaying a large stock of a product that has not been tried.

Current program terms matter more than an old bundle review

Honest’s current terms state that direct subscriptions stopped being offered on November 12, 2025 and the legacy subscription program ended on December 28, 2025. Older descriptions of its diaper-and-wipe subscription are therefore historical, rather than evidence that the same bundle can be ordered today. Check whether a current retailer is offering its own subscription before applying the manufacturer’s old conditions to that purchase.

Review the next order before it processes

Coterie says it sends a reminder 2 days before the next shipment processes. Use the account’s next-order date to check size, quantity and remaining stock. Turning off promotional texts is not the same as canceling a subscription.

Keep the cancellation or delay confirmation and inspect the next scheduled charge. If an order has already processed, ask about that order’s return or refund conditions; the ability to cancel future renewals does not necessarily reverse a shipment already sent. The service’s current terms control that distinction.

The final choice can be a subscription, individual store packs or a mixture that changes with the baby’s size. The cloth diaper cost guide covers the different purchase and washing costs of reusable diapers if that is another option under consideration. For disposable subscriptions, lower cost comes from the combination of unit price and stock that is used, with delivery dates the household can manage.

Questions people ask

Are subscription diapers always cheaper?

No. Compare the delivered cost per diaper in the same size, then account for unused stock. A recurring discount on a premium diaper can still cost more than another product bought without a subscription.

How many diapers are in a Coterie box?

The maker's published chart varies by size: the examples here are 198 in size 1, 168 in size 3, 108 in size 6 and 96 in size 7. Confirm the current selected product before ordering.

Why can an annual subscription cost more than 12 monthly prices?

A 28-day renewal interval is shorter than a calendar month. Thirteen intervals span 364 days, and the number of charges in a calendar year depends on when renewals begin and whether any are skipped.

Can the old Honest diaper bundle still be subscribed to directly?

Honest's terms say its direct subscription program ended in December 2025. Check a retailer's own current offer separately; older manufacturer bundle prices do not establish an available 2026 subscription.
